April Updates

posted Apr 23, 2015, 3:56 PM by Tufts Jumbos

We've had a very busy April with Tufts Equestrian! It started off with a bang when the team placed second at Zone 1 Finals, earning themselves a spot at IHSA Nationals in May. This was extremely excited for all of TUEQ as well as many alums as the team hasn't qualified for Nationals in 20 years! We want to say a special thank you to Mount Holyoke College for hosting a great show.

The following two weekends were a break from IHSA. A few of our riders headed to Boston Polo School for a Saturday afternoon intro to polo lesson. The riders had so much fun and look forward to potentially making this a fun recurring event for the team. The following Friday, the team ventured down to the Greater Boston Food Bank to volunteer their time. We also hope to make this a team activity for future years!

Mid-April brought elections and with 10 seniors graduating this year, there were many positions open on the exec board. We'd like to congratulation the following people on their exec board appointments:

Chase Boggio '16, Maris Nyhart '16, and Emilie Bromley '17 - Tri-Captains
Hannah Schwartz '17 - Lesson Coordinator
Maddy McCrimlisk '18 - Treasurer
Tess Deegan '18 - Athletics Liaison
Nina Dytiuk '17 - Merchandise Coordinator
Alex Dorfman '18 - Social Chair
Taylor Walsh '18 and Maretta Morovitz '17 - Fundraising/Alumni Relations
Candace Smith '17 - Webmaster

Jumbos Take High Point Team at Spring Opener

posted Mar 2, 2015, 6:04 AM by Tufts Jumbos

On Sunday, March 1, TUEQ clinched High Point team in a nail biting finish that came down to the Walk-Trot division. With record snow fall and temps in the teens and twenties, Tufts didn't have much time to prepare for the rapidly approaching first spring horse show, hosted by Bentley University at Volo Farm. But that didn't stop the Jumbos from roaring back into the lead with wins from Tess Deegan '18 in Walk-Trot-Canter and Da Eul Kim '17 in Walk-Trot. But the biggest win for the team today came when they handed their new coach, Shane Powell, of Evermoor LLC, the high point team ribbon, for his first ever IHSA win.

Some highlights of the weekend include Chase Boggio '16 winning High Point rider on Saturday with double wins in Open, Emilie Bromley '17 winning High Point rider on Sunday with double wins in Novice, TUEQ taking High Point team (by 6 points) on Sunday, and Sidney Beecy '18, Riley Aronson '17, and Da Eul Kim '16 making their show debuts at Boston College on Sunday. Big congratulations to the following riders for qualifying for regionals so far:
